Gatemen continue off field success with community reading program

Jun 12, 2019

ROCHESTER, MA- On Tuesday morning, several players from the Wareham Gatemen organization met in the library of the Rochester Memorial Elementary School to read to Pre-K, first, second and third grade students as part of the Gatemen Community reading program.

The program brings ten players into the school, where they meet the students, answer their questions and read to them. Rochester Memorial was the fifth area school the Gatemen have visited this summer, with many more on the schedule throughout the season. In addition to local elementary schools, the reading program will also take place in several public libraries in the Wareham area.

The reading program has been around for several years, and is one of the many initiatives that help the Gatemen give back to the community that fills the stands every summer. By reading and getting to know the kids, the players help show students the importance of reading and hard work, and serve as role models in the community.
