‘She’s Dead!’: Students perform original murder mystery comedy play

May 8, 2021

A small, distanced crowd gathered in the parking lot by the high school’s softball field on Saturday night for the premier of a new play written and directed by two Wareham High School students.

James Fitzgerald and Colby Flanigan wrote “She’s Dead!” over the past year or so, and edited the script with help from various friends and teachers. They then directed the play while each appearing in at least one role.

“We’re just insanely thrilled, not just to be doing our script, but to be doing a show at all,” said Flanigan.

They quickly put together a staged reading of the play, in which several actors played several characters each, and some actors voiced characters over a Zoom video call while others stood in for them.

The play, described by its authors as a “dark murder mystery comedy,” tells the story of one man’s life interwoven with a courtroom drama, which quickly turns deadly. Despite the dark subject matter, the play got lots of laughs.

A recording of the show will be available to rent online in the coming days at https://www.showtix4u.com/events/15934
