Dorothy J. “Janet” Savary, 83

Dorothy J. “Janet” Savary, 83, of Wareham, died Thursday, November 11, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford after a brief illness.  

Janet was born in Providence, RI, to the late Edward A. and Dorothy N. Flinn. The family moved to Bourne, then Wareham in the early 1950s. Janet was in the Wareham High School Class of 1956. She later married Alan C. Savary and started their family.

During her career, she was a legal secretary for Robert MacDonald, and later was the administrative assistant for The Thorne Clinic and later, Psychology Associates.

She was a voracious reader and was well known at the Wareham Library. She was a talented rug hooker and seamstress, creating many outfits, dolls and toys for her family over the years. Janet was a champion at securing educational and physical assistance programs for her youngest daughter, Lisa June.

Janet is survived by her sisters, Margaret Fay and her husband Abbott and Ann Alden and her husband Ernest; her children, Alain Savary, Norine Amaral and her husband Scott, and Wanda Savary all of Wareham, and Lisa Savary of Carver; her grandchildren, Scott Amaral and his wife Allyson of Plymouth, Christiana McKay and her husband Matthew of Mattapoisett, and Sara Tyma of Quincy. Also surviving are several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Alan C. Savary and her brothers, the late Edward and Robert Flinn.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Thurs., Nov. 18, 2021, at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham from  4 to 6 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Fri., Nov. 19th at Agawam Cemetery, Stillman Memorial Drive, Wareham at 11 a.m.
