Joan ‘Jone’ M. (Turner) Holway, 87

Joan ‘Jone’ M. (Turner) Holway, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Jan. 21 after a long illness. Jone was born on Sept. 4, 1932 in Fall River to John and Rosalie Turner and graduated from Durfee High School in 1950.

Jone relocated to Wareham for employment at New England Tel & Tel and married Wendell E. Holway. Jone and Del were married for 52 years, until he predeceased her in
2008. Jone worked in the family business, Del’s Taxi, for many years. Jone was then a secretary at Wareham High School until her retirement.

Jone enjoyed traveling, family, golf, bowling, and swimming. She was active in many local clubs including St. Patrick’s Circle, Monday Club, Red Hatters, the Women’s Golf Association at Little Harbor Golf Club, and the Coffee and Donut Bowling League in Buzzards Bay. Jone also volunteered at Wareham Free Library, Tobey Hospital, and at
Rosebrook Medical. Since moving in 2016, Jone enjoyed daily activities with her many friends at Little Neck Village in Marion.

She is survived by her three daughters, Mandy Holway of Kennebunkport, Maine, Meg Taylor and husband Glenn of Wareham, and Merry Holway and husband David Van Kleeck of Barnstable, along with five grandchildren (Jilian, Bill, Kevin, Thomas, Erika) and two great grandchildren. She was predeceased by one grandchild, Jonathan Vaughan.

Visiting hours will be held at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, followed by a funeral service at noon. Interment will be private.
