Juanita R. “Wannie” Perry, 98

Juanita R. “Wannie” Perry, 98, of Onset died Thursday, July 21, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Leo Perry. 

Born in Wareham, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Mary (Cruz) Henriques. She was raised by her grandparents Candida (Silva) and Daniel “Norato” Cruz both born in Cape Verde and resided in Onset. She was a graduate of Wareham High School and was a lifelong resident of Onset. Mrs. Perry worked as head chambermaid for Green Harbor Motel in West Yarmouth for many years. She also worked seasonally for Ocean Spray. 

Mrs. Perry lived a simple and beautiful life and left a lasting impression on all that knew her. Her greatest pleasures were spending time with her children and grandchildren, remembering all the birthdays and special occasions. She loved her Cape Verdean music and made it every weekend to go dancing and socializing at the Cape Verdean Vets Hall in New Bedford, among other places. She did not miss a beat and was dancing away well into her 90’s. 

She is survived by her children, Valenti Perry, Valerie and her husband Morris “Johnny” Fontes and Lolita Fontes all of Onset; her grandchildren, Derek, Damien, Christopher and Tiffany; her great grandchildren, Kayla and her husband Jared Vasconcelos, Damien Jr., Christopher, Geoffrey, Nicholas, Anne Marie, Kahja, Neveah and Camri and her great great granddaughter, Amiyah.  She was predeceased by her son, the late Ashley “Clip” Perry, and her sisters, the late Stella Silva and Clara Ferry. She had many nieces and nephews. 

Her funeral will be from Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham on Sat., July 30, 2022 at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, Onset at 10 a.m.   Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham. Visiting hours will be Friday from 5 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
