The newly-revived Wareham Free Library Non-Fiction Book Club will discuss Sy Montgomery’s “The Soul of an Octopus: A Surprising Exploration into the Wonder of Consciousness” on Wednesday, Jan. 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 7: 45 p.m.

Montgomery, a naturalist and author, details her “joyful passion” and appreciation of the octopus in a profoundly touching and entertaining work. The book follow’s Montgomery’s intense and very personal relationships with four different octopuses (she doesn’t use the recognize plural “octopi”) — Athena, Octavia, Kali and Karma — at the New England Aquarium, and the octopuses she met during her ocean adventures.

“The Soul of an Octopus” recounts Montgomery’s observations and study of the engaging interactions and relationships between two psychologically dissimilar minds (human and mollusk) when a similarity of souls seems possible.

Those interested in joining the discussion can check out the book at the Library. Copies are available at the circulation desk; only a SAILS library card and a desire to meet other avid readers are required.

For any questions, contact the Library at 508-295-2343.

The Non-Fiction Book Club will meet on the fourth Wednesday of every month from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. at the Library.
