Jun 12, 2022

An early afternoon shooting in Onset on Saturday resulted in one person being airlifted to a trauma center with multiple gunshot wounds and prompted an intense police search for the shooter or shooters.

“We have nobody in custody,” Police Chief Walter Correia said Sunday evening. “The victim is not saying anything … Not getting much help from anyone we talked with yesterday.”

Correia said the victim’s condition is stable.

The shooting took place at about 1:30 p.m. Correia said the location of the shooting “appears to be South Boulevard in Onset at Prospect Avenue.

The victim wasn’t picked up there, though.

“We got dispatched to a patient with multiple gunshot wounds at the corner of Onset Ave and Aunt Hannah’s Lane,” said Onset Fire Captain Ryan Quinn. Quinn said firefighters applied first aid until Wareham EMS arrived.

Then, the man was taken to Tobey Hospital where he was medflighted to a hospital with a trauma center.

Per scanner traffic, the resulting search for the shooter or shooters included a State Police canine unit.

Per social media reports, some people heard the shots ring out while on Onset Beach. According to social media reports, several young people were briefly detained before being released, potentially because their car matched that of the shooter or shooters.
