SOUTH DENNIS - It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Robert Leonard “Bob” Reid; husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. Robert was 73 of Dennis, MA and was born in Somerville, MA to the late Eleanor (Sheehan) Nickerson. He was preceded in passing by his step father Henry Nickerson.

Bob attended Wareham High School. He left school in his junior year to join the U.S Army where he received his GED, he later attended classes at Cape Cod Community College. He served in the US Army from 1967-1970 where he was stationed overseas in Vietnam. It was while he was serving in Vietnam, he was exposed to Agent Orange a chemical that would later cause heart disease, Amyloidosis (a blood disease) and several other maladies. On March 29, 2023 Bob succumbed to these diseases that ultimately took his life.

Bob was employed as a concrete driver for Lawrence Ready-Mix Co and later on, Boston Sand and Gravel. Once retired from Boston Sand and Gravel, Bob worked part-time for Bass River Golf Course in Yarmouth, MA, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships of his coworkers. Bob was a family man and loved spending time with his family. When his children were growing up they enjoyed years of ski weekends to North Conway, later the family spent Sundays at Crowes Pasture enjoying the beach and the water and the exceptional culinary grill treats of “Chef Bob”. Bob loved “cruising” with his wife mainly on Norwegian Cruise line. In 2017 he took his entire family on a Caribbean cruise. Bob loved to travel and his favorite destination was Aruba. This past November the entire family spent a week in Aruba enjoying “fun in the sun”. A memorable trip for sure. In the past couple of years Bob enjoyed sitting on the deck with as cigar and scotch on the rocks (with a twist).

Bob will be missed by many including his wife Paula (Scichilone) Reid with whom shared 38 years of marriage. His son Brian Reid (Kerri) of Yarmouth, MA, daughter Christyn (Reid) Thatcher of Plymouth, MA, and Robert “Bobby” Henry Reid of Dennis, MA. Four grandchildren; Kevin, and Trevor Reid, Kenna, and Trey Thatcher. Bob also leaves behind his sister Elizabeth "Betty" Simoneau and her husband Gerard of Plymouth, MA, his brother's; Warren Reid of Texas, and Charles Reid of New Hampshire. His wife’s family; Mary Giberti of Rochester, MA, Ray (his faithful chauffer and companion) and Karen Scichilone of Yarmouth, MA, Joe and Kim Scichilone of North Carolina, and Andy and Judy Scichilone of Sandwich, MA. He will be missed by his former wife and friend, Carol Fernald and her husband Jimmy, as well as his Best Friend Thomas Williamson, and his daughters; Karen, Christine, and Colleen. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visiting Hours will be held at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Route 134 South Dennis, MA from 4-7PM on April 2, 2023. Interment will take place at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA with full military honors at 10:45AM. A Procession will take place from the funeral home at 9AM, it is optional.
