Town works toward opening covid vaccine drive-thru

Feb 4, 2021

Wareham’s health officials are working to set up a town vaccination clinic. But the supply of vaccines is slim, and the town will likely only be able to access a limited number of doses -- 100 doses per week.

“We’re still trying to get qualified,” reported Bob Ethier, the director of public health, at a Feb. 3 Board of Health meeting.

He’s getting the logistics in line: Finding appropriate refrigerators, nurse volunteers to administer the vaccines, and a location.

Ethier said he is planning a drive-thru clinic near the Middle School.

“We’re working on this, so just be patient. We hope that we can get some vaccines as soon as possible,” Ethier said. “I know people are frustrated, and I know people are scared. We’re doing everything we can to get the state to provide what we need.”

Ethier said that he has been in talks with other towns to see if collaboration is possible. The public health nurses are eager to help, as is the Wareham Fire Department.

Southcoast Health is in the process of setting up a vaccine clinic at the Gleason Family YMCA which is set to open next week.
