The lobby of the Gleason Family YMCA is full of princess dresses, Spiderman suits and pointed witches’ hats — all gently used and priced to be affordable, with only a few items costing the $10 maximum.

The recycled costume sale is an annual event intended to help all kids find a costume they are excited about at a reasonable price. All the proceeds go to the YMCA’s annual campaign, which provides financial aid for those who need it to access the Y’s programs. 

Special Events Coordinator Cathy Longfield said one family with five kids found costumes for each one for a grand total of less than $20. 

“Most everybody can find something,” said Longfield. 

The sale includes costumes for everyone from babies to adults. 

Dolores Antonino stopped by on Saturday to see if she could help out.

“I love costumes,” Antonino said. “I texted my kids and said, ‘I’m in my happy place.’”

The sale will continue on Sunday and Monday.  The Y will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday and from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday.

The YMCA, located at 33 Charge Pond Rd., will be hosting a Trunk-or-Treat event from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30. Longfield said she is still looking for people or groups to decorate their cars and hand out treats. She said the event can be particularly good for those who don’t get trick-or-treaters at their homes, groups like Scout troops, or kids looking to complete community service hours. The event will be free and open to all trick-or-treaters, although non-perishable food donations will be gladly accepted.
