Saint Anne’s Hospital Earns “Top Hospital” National Award for Quality

Dec 7, 2017

Fall River, Mass. – In recognition of its nationally recognized achievements in patient safety and quality, Saint Anne’s Hospital has been named one of 44 Top General Hospitals in the United States by The Leapfrog Group.

Announced today, the Leapfrog Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive honors American hospitals can receive. The Top Hospital designation is awarded by The Leapfrog Group, an independent hospital watchdog organization.

Noting that this is the second time Saint Anne’s has received “Top Hospital” honors, Saint Anne’s Hospital President Michael Bushell said, “We are especially grateful to our employees and medical staff for the care provided to our patients and families and the work our employees have done to support this care. Our team’s collective expertise, compassion and ‘can do’ attitude have not only helped us to achieve this distinction, but especially, helped us to continue to make a difference in the lives of our patients and families.”

Saint Anne’s is among 109 hospitals overall, and one of just six general hospitals in New England, being recognized by The Leapfrog Group. Nationally, in addition to the 44 general hospitals, these include ten children’s hospitals, 18 rural hospitals, and 37 teaching hospitals.

Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, inpatient care management, and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors. The rigorous standards are defined in each year’s Top Hospital Methodology.

“We are proud to recognize Saint Anne’s Hospital as a 2017 Leapfrog Top Hospital. This demonstrates extraordinary dedication to patients and the local community. The entire staff and board deserve praise for putting quality first and achieving results,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of Leapfrog.

To qualify for the Top Hospitals distinction, hospitals must submit a Leapfrog Hospital Survey. The selection of Top Hospitals 2017 is based on surveys from nearly 1,900 hospitals. To see the full list of institutions honored as 2017 Top Hospitals, visit www.leapfroggroup.org/tophospitals.
