Gatemen, Little Leaguers Join for Morning of Wiffle Ball
Wareham Gatemen players ventured up to Carver, MA this morning, June 23, to participate in wiffle ball games with little leaguers.
The forecast seemed grim earlier on in the morning, but the rain stopped just in time for the wiffle ball games to begin. The morning started with the younger little leaguers.
The Gatemen players and little leaguers split into two teams. The game was filled with stunning plays by the little leaguers and big home runs by the Gatemen players.
After about an hour, it was time for the older little leaguers to get their chance to play alongside the Gatemen. The Gatemen players and little leaguers once again split into two teams and played for another hour.
This is one of many community service events the Gatemen have done this season thus far. The players have visited elementary schools to read to students and taken trips to Keystone Place at Buzzards Bay to talk with residents.
Future Gatemen community service events include readings at local libraries, greeting guests at Water Wizz, trips back to Keystone Place, and mornings at the Boys & Girls Club of Wareham as well as another various events.
The Gatemen players in attendance this morning were Luke Roskam, Cody Carroll, Ken Waldichuk, Oliver Dunn, Will Proctor, and Jack Ralston.
The Gatemen’s next community service event is Wednesday, June 27, when the players read at the Wareham Public Library.
For Gatemen baseball action, the team plays tonight, June 23, at 6:30pm. The Gatemen host the Brewster Whitecaps. Get there early as we honor our three Team USA players in a pregame ceremony at 6:15pm.
