Game 13 and 14 Preview: Gatemen play two at YD

Jun 24, 2018

YARMOUTH – The Gatemen (8-4) look to build off their walk-off win yesterday as they play two versus the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox (5-4-2) in Yarmouth with game one beginning at 2:30 p.m.

The Gatemen beat the Whitecaps 3-2 in 10 innings for their third walk-off win of the season. Bryant Packard (ECU) delivered the game winning hit as he singled home Sahid Valenzuela (Cal State Fullerton) in the bottom of the tenth.

The Gatemen offense was held in check for the majority of the night, but made their opportunities count. The Gatemen team had only three hits all game and went six straight innings without one.

The YD Red Sox had yesterday off as their game with the Bourne Braves was postponed. All games in the Cape League other than the one in Wareham were postponed yesterday.

In their last game on Friday night, the Red Sox scored 12 runs to beat the Mariners 12-1. The Red Sox also won their previous two games before that 6-1 and 1-0. Entering play today, the Red Sox have not lost in four straight games (3-0-1).

RHP Cade Cavalli (0-0, 18.00 ERA) is the Gatemen starter for game one today. Cavalli has appeared in one game as a pitcher so far for Wareham. Cavalli threw one inning allowing two runs on June 17 against Orleans.

RHP Nathan Wiles (0-1, 10.38 ERA), Cavalli’s collegiate teammate at the University of Oklahoma, is the starter for the Red Sox. Wiles will be making his second start and is coming off a rough Cape season debut. Wiles lost his first time out as he gave up five runs in 4.1 innings.
