Game 24 Preview: Cavalli on the hill as Wareham battles Hyannis
HYANNIS – The Wareham Gatemen (14-9) look to bounce back tonight as they take on the Hyannis Harbor Hawks (12-8-2) at McKeon Park in Hyannis at 6:00 p.m.
The Gatemen look to right the wrongs of last night when they gave up four runs in the ninth to blow a 3-2 lead versus the Falmouth Commodores. Wareham scored a run in the bottom half of the inning, but failed to complete their comeback and lost 6-4. Will Proctor was the Wareham starter and turned in one of his best starts of the year. Proctor threw five innings and allowed just one run on two hits.
The Harbor Hawks enter play today having lost last night as well. Hyannis fell at the hands of the Cotuit Kettleers by a score of 8-3. Jordan Fowler started for Hyannis and got roughed up in his 3.1 innings. He allowed six runs to score on six hits and three walks. On the other hand, John Baker went six strong innings and allowed just one run in the win. Davis Wendzel was one of the few bright spots for Hyannis as he hit his first homer of the Cape season last night.
Cade Cavalli (0-0, 3.38 ERA) is on the hill making his third start and fourth overall appearance for Wareham. In his eight innings of work this year, Cavalli has allowed just three runs but has displayed poor control, walking nine men.
On the opposing side, Gavin Hollowell (1-0, 2.13 ERA) makes his third start of the year and fifth appearance overall. Hollowell recorded his first win of the season in his last start when he went five innings to pick up the win against Harwich. The Harbor hawks won 2-1 in that contest and Hollowell limited the Mariners to one run.
In regard to the Gatemen lineup today, Wareham’s newest addition is making his Gatemen debut tonight. Outfielder Jakob Goldfarb from the University of Oregon comes over to the Wareham roster after being released by the Cotuit Kettleers earlier this week. Goldfarb struggled at the plate in his eight games and went 1-19 (.053).
“Goldfarb’s a good hitter, he runs well. He plays at Oregon which is a good club. They know how to manufacture runs and play the game, so I think he’s going to fit right in,” manager Don Sneddon said.
