Irene “Cookie” Marie Cook, 82

Apr 5, 2023

Irene “Cookie” Marie Cook, 82, of Wareham, MA, formerly of Gardner, MA, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at the Tremont Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center in Wareham, MA.

She was born in New York, the daughter of the late Charles S. and Irene (Allen) Cook, Sr. She attended Sacred Heart grammar school & Gardner High School. After attending college Cookie moved to Florida where she spent most of her adult life in various cities (Hialeah, Hollywood, Hudson, Newport Richey and Fort Lauderdale). Cookie ran an entire lab as a Medical Technologist at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami for many years before relocating back to the Northeast in 2015 to be closer to family as she underwent 2 malignant sarcoma surgeries.

A true fighter, Cookie has faced much adversity throughout her life & always chose to keep moving forward. She never did get to write her book, Perils of the Cookster, but she was an amazing storyteller and she loved to share her never ending plethora of true-life stories to everyone around her. Her feisty spirit was loved by all who met her and she enjoyed renaming those she liked as she saw fit. Cookie loved all of the amazing staff at The Tremont who took wonderful care of her during all her ups and downs over the years and she will be greatly missed there.

She will also be unbelievably missed by her niece Kim who she loved to introduce as her life saver. Cookie was predeceased by her brother Allen & her sisters Jeanette, Nancy, Betty and Pat. She is survived by her brother Charles S. Cook of Long Island, NY & many nieces & nephews. Until we meet again, hope you are happily smoking and drinking your Dunkin Ice Coffee with just cream “because you are sweet enough”!

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday April 11, 2023 at 10:00 in Saint Patrick’s Church, 94 High Street Wareham. Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA.

Memorial gifts: Donations can be made in Irene’s name to The Clark Cancer Center at Falmouth Hospital where she received many years of amazing care. www.capecodhealth.org/ways-to-give/.
