Give blood, save lives
The Wareham Council on Aging will host a community blood drive at the gymnasium at 48 Marion Road from 12 to 5 p.m.
The American Red Cross is experiencing an emergency blood shortage, as the nation faces the lowest number of people giving blood in 20 years — according to the American Red Cross, the number of people donating blood over the last 20 years has fallen by more than 40%.

Chow down on chowder
Chowder chefs and lovers of the dish are invited to the Redmen 2nd Annual Chowder Festival, where people can bring in their chowder specialties for voting.
The festival will be held at the Redmen Hall, 745 Main Street from 1 to 4 p.m.
There is a $15 entry fee for the chowder competition, and $10 general admission. Contact Eben Bumpus at 508-269-6228 or leave a message at the hall at 508-291-0882 for tickets or information.

Retirement congratulations
Join the Town of Wareham in celebration of 42 years of service from former EMS Director David Evans.
The celebration will take place at 5 p.m. at the Stone Path Malt tap room, 11 Kendrick Road.
The $25 per person buffet will be provided by Minkle Boys Catering. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.

Shooting for the stars
The Wareham council of the Knights of Columbus, Council 15280, will hold a basketball hoop shoot contest for kids ages nine to fourteen. Winners on the day will move on to further rounds of the contest as part of a nationwide Knights of Columbus competition.
The hoop shoot will take place at the Gleason Family YMCA at 33 Charge Pond Road. The contest will start at 10 a.m. sharp, and participants are encouraged to arrive earlier (around 9:30 a.m.) to register. There is no fee for the competition.
The contest is open to boys and girls, ages nine to fourteen, and is divided by age and by gender. Winners of each division will move on to districts, then to regionals and beyond; winners will be informed of the date and location of the next round.

Winter wonderland
Celebrate the season with a wintery performance for families at 6:30 p.m. at the Onset Bay Center, 186 Onset Avenue, Onset. The celebration of winter will start with participants invited to create an indoor snowstorm, in which they can shovel, make snowmen and snow angels and explore nature in winter.
