Wareham Week must reconsider opinion guidelines

Jan 25, 2017

To the Editor and Publisher:

I have just read the fourth letter from Mr. Arthur Sandland on your website. At first, I was entertained by the dialog, but it has become an embarrassment. I think it is time for you to re-evaluate your criteria for publishing input from your readers.

Mr. Sandland’s letters have escalated to nothing more than hateful, divisive, bigoted, and often erroneous ranting, that provide no value other than to let him spew his anger. His writings are rambling attacks on people who he disagrees, without providing any alternative ideas or forward thinking proposals.

Mr. Sandland’s angry attacks often prompt the people he attacks to respond in the comments you publish with their own hateful, divisive, bigoted and erroneous ranting.

My complaint isn’t about Mr. Sandland’s or responder’s political beliefs. My complaint is with the WarehamVillageSoup, for providing a forum for such uncivil behavior.

Is this really the goal of WarehamVillageSoup, to provide a forum for this type of behavior?

Is this the type of behavior that we want Wareham to be known for? I hope not, and hope that your editorial board will consider applying a little more discretion as to what it publishes.
