Capt. Kendrick's "Lady Washington"

May 5, 2011

When Capt. Kendrick sailed from Boston in 1787 headed for the northwest coast, he was in command of two ships, the brig Columbia Rediva, and the sloop, Lady Washington. As the Wareham Historical Society has already announced, Mr. Scott Ridley will tell us about this voyage on Monday, May 16, 2011, at 7 pm in the Old Methodist Meeting House, 495 Main St., Wareham. In the meantime, you might like to know that in 1989, a replica of the Lady Washington was launched as the official ship of the State of Washington. She sails today up and down the Pacific coast of the United States, and plays host to numerous "Adventure Sails" and "Battle Sails" to which the public are invited to sail with the crew (re-enactors).

The Lady Washington also has her own film credits, and you've probably seen her. If you've watched the movie, "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," then you've seen the Lady Washington playing her role as the HMS Interceptor. And in the movie, "Star Trek Generations," she was the ship used on the holodeck as the brig Enterprise.
