Wareham Middle School students strut their stuff at winter concert
Musicians and singers at Wareham Middle School treated friends and family to a winter concert on Thursday night, showing off skills and techniques they’ve worked hard to perfect all year.
The concert was lead by band and chorus teacher Caitlin Hagarty, who teaches music to students in grades five through seven.
“The concert is like an infomercial for parents,” Hagarty said. “They get to preview what we’ve been working on and what we’re going to explore next. It’s not a polished performance by any means, but we have a lot of fun.”
Hagarty said the students have been learning to sing and play in unison all year and are just now venturing into carrying different parts of songs by themselves.
“Many of them have never played an instrument or sang in front of crowd before this year,” Hagarty said. “So this show is a huge step for them in a lot of ways.”
Hagarty said many students rose to the challenge, however, including seventh grader Hayden Kinsman who volunteered to give a solo performance during the song “This is Me” from the movie “The Greatest Showman”.
Singer and multi-instrumentalist Dylan Cournoier, who performed on Main Street in December, was another student to watch.
“You could point to any kid in the crowd and I could tell you their personal story of achievement,” Hagarty said. “They’ve all worked extremely hard, but none of this possible without the support they receive at home.”
