The 2025 Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game happened Saturday and was a huge success. The best players from each of the ten CCBL teams stepped onto Red Wilson Field, home of the Y-D Red Sox, for a home run derby and a nine-inning game where the best of the best competed against one another.

The Gatemen selected seven of their best players to go to Yarmouth for the day. Those players included Hunter Carns (Florida State), Colby Turner (Michigan), Brayden Randle (Ole Miss), Kaleb Applebey (Austin Peay State), Josh Butler (Arizona State), Chase Krewson (Rutgers), and Easton Breyfogle (Arizona), who hit in the Home Run Contest.

They were all selected for their stellar season and contributions to the Gatemen team. Each of them got a chance to play in the All-Star Game, where the East and West Divisions squared off.

The East Division All-Stars ended up winning the game 13-8 over the West Division All-Stars in a game with stellar defensive highlights and a lot of home runs.

Speaking of home runs, the Home Run Contest preceded the game and had six players across the league. One of those six chosen was Breyfogle, who performed well at the plate.

In total, he crushed 25 home runs, coming in second place in the contest, only being beaten by Bourne’s Kuhio Aloy (Arkansas), who struck 26 home runs. It was an event that only a few could participate in, which made it special for the Arizona Wildcat.

“It was really cool, there were only six guys selected for it, and Smyth asked me to do it and I said, ‘yes, let’s do it’, I was ready to have some fun and it was cool,” said Breyfogle.

After that, the game began. Both Turner and Carns were starters for the game, with Turner having a great day at the plate and in the field. He went 2 for 3 and scored a run while making some great catches and throws in left field, but he was grateful for the opportunity.

“It was great to be here, thank you to the coaches who selected me. Being here has matured and developed me as a player to get to where I am now,” said Turner to Gatemen Sideline Reporter Rayna Maggelet on being an All-Star on the Cape.

The game quickly fell out of control for the West, however, as the East piled on 10 runs in the first three innings combined, scoring six in the third inning alone. It was not long before the West made a comeback in the second half of the game, however.

The West strung together a three-run fourth inning and a three-run seventh inning, bringing the score at that point to 13-7. Then, Krewson of the Gatemen got up in the top of the eighth and crushed a home run to make it 13-8. It was his first home run of the summer, making the hit that much sweeter.

“It was a super cool moment,” said Krewson. “There is so much history behind playing up here on the Cape. To be able to perform and do that on this stage was super awesome.”

The West Division then lost the game 13-8, but for the players, it was not about the score; it was about soaking in the experience.

“I just soaked it all in. I am more of a person who is committed to a process and a routine. Today, you don’t really have that since it’s so sporadic, but it was still super fun to be out here and play,” said Krewson.

The Wareham Gatemen All-Stars represented the team well and will have that title for the rest of their careers. The Gatemen will return to their normal schedule on Monday as they return to Red Wilson Field to face the Y-D Red Sox for the final time this season. First pitch will be at 5:00 p.m..
