Listen to wiseacre mockingbirds, blowhard toads, impish chipmunks, Cockney otters, obnoxious literary agents, conspiratorial weasels, badgers with a brogue, and sweet singing water rats tell their story in an entertaining and amusing audio/visual presentation sponsored by the Friends of the Dartmouth Libraries.

On Thursday, June 16, at 6:30 p.m., Frederick and Amy Thurber will describe their long quest to find a voice for the characters in the audio version of their book, In the Wake of the Willows.  The book, a sequel to The Wind in the Willows, is set on Buzzards Bay, Cherry & Webb beach, Allens Pond, and in the Paquachuck Inn and features sailing adventures in wooden boats, scavenger hunts, beach parties, amusing characters, and a mysterious prophecy.

The presentation will follow the Thurbers’ efforts to produce an audio adaptation of their successful, locally-published book and their search for a narrator who could capture the personalities and different voices of their characters.  Audience members will hear audition tapes from talented student actresses enrolled at a local college and hear amusing clips from recordings of the winner, a young lady of a thousand voices.

The Thurbers’ presentation will be held in the community room at Dartmouth North Branch Library, 211 Cross Road, Dartmouth.  For more information, please e-mail fodl.libraries@gmail.com.
