The YMCA Southcoast is now offering 4 new classes at 4 branches to help individuals at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes.  The YMCA's Diabetes Prevention Program is a lifestyle balance program based on research from the National Institutes of Health to reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58 % overall, aged 60+ by 71%.

The program is a one year long program where participants learn to slowly adopt healthy eating habits, control portions, eat less fat, increase physical activity. A small group setting meeting with a Certified Lifestyle Coach for 25 Sessions (19 sessions in the first 6 months, 6 sessions in the last 6 months).  The program includes a one year adult membership to the Y.

Classes starting week of September 25th.  There are a few openings at each branch (Fall River, Gleason (Wareham), New Bedford, Dartmouth.
