Chamber Music Series Returns with “Discover the Beauty”
All are invited to join us for a year of discovery, re-acquaintance, and memorable beauty as the South Coast Chamber Music Series takes their musical journey one giant step further with this season’s theme of “Discover the Beauty,” expanding from four to five concerts. Tickets are $20 at the door; season subscriptions are available through October 1 for $80 (that’s five concerts for the price of four!) by calling the NBSO at 508-999-6276. All concerts will take place at 4pm. The venue for Saturday concerts is St. Gabriel’s Church, 124 Front Street, Marion, while Sunday concerts take place at St. Peter’s Church, 351 Elm Street, South Dartmouth.
We open the season on September 30 and October 1 with “The GIft of Music,” featuring two string quintets, keyboard fireworks, and a Hollywood classic: a musical feast! On November 18 and 19, “Total Beethoven” presents three facets of the immortal Beethoven. On January 13 and 14, we welcome heat from Latin America, ignited by virtuoso guitarist Aaron Larget-Caplan, in “Ritmos Caliente.” March 10 and 11 bring harmonies light, dark, and dazzling in “Chiaroscuro.” And we close out our season on April 14 and 15 with “April Smolders,” a capricious array of fantasy, virtuosity, the familiar, and the unknown. The South Coast Chamber Music Series (SCCMS) was formed to present high-quality classical chamber music for the communities of Southeastern Massachusetts. SCCMS held its first subscription series concert on October 20, 2001. Since then, we have performed composers from Bach, Brahms, and Ravel to present-day masters Takemitsu and Piston. Each program presents an engaging array of styles, timbres, and artists in lively acoustic environments in Marion and South Dartmouth. We joined forces with the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra (NBSO) in 2014, giving both organizations an opportunity to expand in all directions—more concerts, more musicians, and more music—and are thrilled to connect with our loyal and growing audience. The NBSO is dedicated to building a community of music in the South Coast. Visit www.nbsymphony.org for more information.
