The New Bedford Symphony Orchestra is very pleased to announce it has selected Yaniv Dinur as its next music director.

Maestro Dinur is the Assistant Conductor of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and conducted the NBSO’s January concert, “An American in Russia.” Dinur commented,  "It is a joy to be joining such a wonderful group of musicians, and a passionate and innovative staff. The week I spent making music with the New Bedford Symphony was not only inspiring and rewarding—it was also great fun. I can't wait to begin our journey together!" Dinur will be the thirteenth NBSO music director, succeeding David MacKenzie who retired at the end of the 2015-16 centennial season after a decade as music director.

NBSO President and CEO David M. Prentiss said that the NBSO is eager to begin working with Dinur: "With the appointment of Yaniv Dinur as music director, the future of the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra has never been brighter or more exciting. Yaniv's artistry, passion, and ability to connect with musicians and audiences will make every NBSO concert a thrilling and memorable experience." NBSO trustee Sandria Parsons added, "As chair of the NBSO Board of Trustees, I anticipate an exciting 2017/18 classical season. Maestro Dinur is planning his first series of concerts. Dinur is a winner of numerous conducting awards, among them the 2016 Solti Foundation U.S. Career Assistance Award, Special Prize at the 2009 Mata International Conducting Competition in Mexico, and the Yuri Ahronovitch 1st Prize in the 2005 Aviv Conducting Competitions in Israel. He was chosen by the League of American Orchestras to be a featured conductor in the 2011 Bruno Walter Conducting Preview, and he is a recipient of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation and the Zubin Mehta Scholarship Endowment. He has conducted the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Jerusalem Symphony, Houston Symphony, Louisiana Philharmonic, New World Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, Tallahassee Symphony, Orchestra Giovanile Italiana, Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese, Pomeriggi Musicali in Milan, Solisti di Perugia, Torino Philharmonic, Portugal Symphony Orchestra, Sofia Festival Orchestra, State Orchestra of St. Petersburg, Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM in Mexico, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa. Yaniv has also worked closely with such world-class musicians as Lorin Maazel, Michael Tilson Thomas, Pinchas Zukerman, Itzhak Perlman, and Kurt Masur. He holds a Doctorate in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Michigan School of Music.

Prentiss congratulated all four top finalists for their participation in a remarkable 2016-2017 season and expressed appreciation for the input and support from NBSO audiences this season. He also thanked the search committee for their exemplary work, as well as all of the NBSO musicians who provided input on the candidates.
