Join the Friends of the Dartmouth Libraries on Thursday, June 20, at 6:30 p.m. to hear local author and social worker Pamela Lowell discuss her participation in Mass Audubon’s Osprey nest-monitoring project on the Westport River. She will share her experiences and book, My Summer with Ospreys: A Therapist’s Journey Toward Hope, Community, and Healing Our Planet. Her presentation will include photographs and video of the nest monitoring, paintings inspired by the work, a banding demonstration, and descriptions of the translocation process (supplying a dozen chicks to new homes in Illinois). This program is suitable for adults and families with children (over nine), nature enthusiasts, budding birders, and young and older environmentalists. The presentation will be held at Dartmouth North Branch Library.
As a licensed clinical social worker and author of four books, Pamela Lowell has spent the past forty years as an expert in healing psychological trauma, working as a clinician, consultant, and training specialist. Her young adult novel, Returnable Girl, won numerous accolades including the IRA Young Adult Choices and VOYA’s Top Shelf Fiction. In 2022, she began painting large watercolors of Ospreys and donated the proceeds to local nature organizations. In 2023, she accompanied Mass Audubon in their weekly Osprey nest monitoring project on the Westport River, a transformative experience. Her website is www.pamelalowell.com. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
