On Saturday, January 21, the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra presents its third music director finalist in concert when Yaniv Dinur conducts An American in Russia.

Dinur, currently Assistant Conductor of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, started his conducting career at age 19, performing with the Israel Camerata, the youngest conductor ever to conduct an orchestra in Israel. He has conducted orchestras throughout the world and has worked closely with such world-class musicians as Lorin Maazel, Michael Tilson Thomas, Pinchas Zukerman, Gerhard Markson, and Kurt Masur.

The NBSO concert program begins with Short Ride in a Fast Machine, a breathlessly brief, thrilling orchestral composition by American composer John Adams. Then internationally renowned pianist Yakov Kasman joins the NBSO to perform Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 4. The program closes with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, the height of Russian Romantic music and a stormy journey of the tormented composer dealing with his own identity.

The concert will take place on Saturday, January 21, 7:30pm, at the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center in downtown New Bedford. Please join us before the performance for Mr. Dinur’s pre-concert talk at 6:30pm in the Penler Space (adjoining The Z), free and open to the public. Concert tickets are $25‒$60, with $10 student tickets (not available online). Purchase tickets through the Z box office, 508-994-2900, or online at www.nbsymphony.org. Free and convenient concert parking is available in the Z garage. There will also be an opportunity to meet Mr. Dinur at an after-concert reception in the Penler Space. Concert sponsor is Whaling City Sound; reception sponsor is Russell Morin Catering & Events.
