NBSO Presents Music and Art on November 6

Nov 3, 2021

New Bedford, MA—On Saturday, November 6, the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra presents Disruption. Under the direction of Music Director Yaniv Dinur, the orchestra will perform Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 and Symphony No. 7, plus Derrick Skye’s Prisms, Cycles, Leaps. To complement the performance of these pieces, a special art exhibit by Olivia Coucci entitled “Beethoven in New Bedford” will be displayed. Coucci (24) was born and raised in New Bedford and is currently working as a Story Artist at Pixar Animation Studios. Maestro Dinur stated, “I got to know Olivia’s work after she attended one of our concerts and doodled our musicians. Her art is beautiful, charming, and funny, and I immediately knew I wanted to collaborate with her. Since we’re playing two Symphonies by Beethoven in our upcoming concert, I thought it would be fun to show the great composer visiting familiar places in New Bedford. It’s been inspiring to see what Olivia has come up with.”

Beethoven’s immortal symphonies remain some of the most unique and inspiring pieces in the repertoire. Going against the stream, Beethoven paved the way for every composer who followed. Derrick Skye combines elements of Balkan music and Hindustani classical music. His piece maintains high energy throughout, morphing from one dance to the next, until finally consuming itself.

Disruption will take place on November 6, 7:30 pm, at the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center in downtown New Bedford. Please join Maestro Yaninv Dinur and Artist Olivia Coucci in the theatre at 6:30 pm for a pre-concert talk about the evening’s music and art.
