Southcoast VNA seeking Portuguese speaking volunteers to assist with Hospice & Palliative Care program
WAREHAM, Mass. — Southcoast VNA, a part of Southcoast® Health, is seeking Portuguese speaking volunteers for its Hospice & Palliative Care program. Applicants should be comfortable engaging in conversation with Portuguese speaking patients and family members.
Volunteers are an integral part of the care giving team providing companionship, much needed relief for families and vigil support. Volunteers often read to patients or help them to discuss fond memories which makes sharing a common language a comforting touch.
To become a volunteer, individuals need to be 18 years of age, provide basic screening information and references and be willing to serve a minimum of two to four hours per week. Volunteers receive extensive training and support, and are supervised by the volunteer coordinator.
