Join the Friends of the Dartmouth Libraries on Wednesday, October 13, at 6:00 p.m. to hear Emily Brown and Susan Souza-Mort discuss how to identify truth and “fake news” in traditional and social media.  Ms. Brown and Ms. Souza-Mort will introduce audience members to the dark world of misinformation and show how to fact check the information they find in print and online.

Emily Z. Brown is Coordinator of Library Research and Instruction at Bristol Community College's Fall River Campus.  Emily has been with the College since 2013.  Her research interests include misinformation, self-radicalization, and foreign disinformation campaigns.   Emily sits on the College advisory boards for Honors and the Holocaust and Genocide Center.

Susan Souza-Mort is a research and instruction librarian at BCC’s New Bedford Campus.  Affiliated with the College for over 17 years, Susan runs the Open Educational Resources Program, which gives students access to free resources to save on textbook expenses.  She is also an adjunct history professor and academic liaison to the STEM academic area at the College.

In accordance with the Dartmouth Board of Health guidelines, audience members are strongly encouraged to adhere to the recent CDC advisory that all people wear masks indoors regardless of vaccination status due to the presence of the highly infectious Delta variant.

This presentation will be held in the Haskell Auditorium at Southworth Library, 732 Dartmouth Street.  For more information, please e-mail fodl.libraries@gmail.com.
