Living where we do, we have some of the most interesting neighbors....
And Kathryn A. Zagzebski, executive director of the National Marine Life Center in Buzzards Bay, will introduce us to a few of them when she presents Marine Animals of Cape Cod: Conservation through Rehabilitation, Science and Education on September 30 at the Wareham Free Library from 6-8 p.m. She'll acquaint us with sea turtles, seals, dolphins, porpoises and whales, including endangered Kemp's ridley turtles and northern right whales. Ms. Zagzebski will also explain why some of these magnificent sea creatures strand on nearby beaches-sometimes in heartbreaking numbers--how some are rescued and rehabilitated, and she'll describe ongoing efforts to improve their odds, including things we all can do.
Wareham Land Trust Board member Nancy McHale said: "We've sponsored talks about turtles, about whalesand last spring, about great white sharks. Now the Wareham Land Trust brings them all altogether in what promises to be a fascinating discussion of marine wildlife rehabilitation. We are delighted to bring interesting information about the world around us to curious minds. The hour is early to accommodate students though we hope nature lovers of all ages will attend."
Refreshments will be served.
Kathryn Zagzebski has served as president and executive director of the National Marine Life Center since March 2005 after tenure in the Stranding Department at the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, California and time spent in the Georgia Coastal Management Program.
