‘Harry’s Message’

Apr 23, 2019

Joe and Beth McDonald submitted this poem, "translated from dog language," as a message from their recently departed Westie, Harry, who enjoyed his walks in Onset over the last 15 years.

Harry’s message

Put your whole face

into the Queen Anne’s lace

and move slowly round

this next bend

your bend

Practice being in the walk

not just on it

Climb benches

Sit butt to butt

Look out at the sea

and race for the fun

not the goal

The breeze is for sniffing

what’s here

Hold all heads with both palms

rub all ears and shoulders

dig in the dirt

roll on the grass

eat a cookie at ACE

Life is a sweet ride
