4th Annual Old Time Fiddle Contest on July 4
The Wareham Historical Society is holding the 4th Annual "Old Time Fiddle Contest" at 10 a.m. on July 4 at the Congregational Fellowship Hall on Gibbs Avenue.
Contestants can register in one of 2 divisions, the 15 and under Junior Division or the Open Division. Space is limited so contestants are encouraged to register early.
Each contestant must play 2 old time tunes of their choice. Styles could include New England Dance, Down East, Canadian, Southern U.S., British Isles, amongst others. Judges will be looking for the best traditional old time fiddle players.
Fiddlers may play alone or with a rhythm accompanist, but the fiddlers must play lead melody at all times. In case of a tie there will be a one-tune playoff, and all prizes will be awarded at the end of the contest. No electric or amplified instruments are allowed.
To register, email Carolyn McMorrow at b330@msn.com with your name, phone number, and which category you will play in.
On the day of the competition, contestants must inform the registration desk of their tunes and select a number for order of play.
