After two weeks off, Vikings face Seekonk on Friday
The Wareham Vikings suffered a tough 28-6 loss to Bishop Stang on September 6, but they've had two weeks to regroup and Head Coach Dan Nault says he expects to see a better performance from the boys on Friday, September 20, when they face off against Seekonk.
"We've had two weeks to prepare so we've been trying to take care of a lot of the things that we need to," Nault says.
According to Nault, a lot of the mistakes that were made in the Bishop Stang game came from a lack of experience.
Eighteen seniors graduated in 2013.
"We blocked the wrong people, and we blocked people wrongly," Nault said, adding that on defense there were missed tackles, and other errors.
Despite the mistakes, Nault is confident that the team will grow as the season progresses.
"We didn't do a lot of things well, but they're still better than they were when they first started," says Nault. "When you've got an inexperienced team it takes awhile to get them up to speed."
Although the team has had two weeks to practice, Nault says it's tough to gauge how this will affect the Viking' s performance against Seekonk.
"When you have inexperienced kids practice against other inexperienced kids you don't get a sense of what you can and can't do," he explained.
Friday night, the Vikings will show high school football fans what they can do.
Check back Saturday morning for the results of Friday's game!
