Alan P. Whipple, 68, of Wareham died Tuesday, December 03, 2013 in St. Luke’s Hospital, New Bedford. He was the husband of Sally Irene (Gerrish) Whipple and the son of the late Merton and Edna L. (Truesdon) Whipple.

He was born in Attleboro and lived in Wareham for many years.

Mr. Whipple graduated from Attleboro High School, Class of 1963 where he was a member of the National Honor Society and Co-Captain of the Swimming Team.  He graduated from Babson College in 1967 with a B.S. in Business Administration and was a Co-Captain of the Swimming Team. He graduated from Northeastern University in 1973 with an M.B.A. and was a teaching assistant there.

He was commissioned 2nd Lt. USAF in 1967 and served in the 44th Minuteman Missile Wing at Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City, SD. He was discharged in 1971 as a Captain.

Mr. Whipple worked for Nashua Corporation, Canteen Corporation, Tobey Hospital, the Onset Water District and National Amusements in accounting and finance positions.

He was a member of the Wareham Lodge of Elks, Buzzards Bay Eagles in Buzzards Bay and the Weary Travelers in Monument Beach.

He loved his friends, his cats and coin collecting. He enjoyed sitting in the sun on the front porch watching the world go by.

Survivors include his wife, Sally Irene (Gerrish) Whipple of Buzzards Bay; his brother, Elliot Whipple and his wife Linda Rogers of Westport; a stepson, Timothy Silverberg and his children, Joshua, Zachary and Erin of Wareham; a nephew, James O’Hare and his wife, Louise of Liverpool, England.

His graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 6th, at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Visiting hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham.
