Alberta McElaney (Cook) of Wareham, died September 3, 2022.

Alberta’s life was all about family. A devoted Catholic, she so cherished attending all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren's activities and celebrations. Education was very important to Alberta, and she attended classes at both Northeastern University and Boston University after graduating from St. Patrick’s High School in Roxbury and the Boston Latin School. She had a keen interest in science and geology. Alberta was an avid piano player, enjoyed classical music, camping and boating trips along the Cape Cod Canal.

Beloved wife of the late Albert J. McElaney. Loving mother of Judith Mulrooney and her husband James of Swansea, Teresa Flavin and her husband Steven of Marshfield, Christine Cogswell and her husband David of Wareham and the late Albert T. McElaney. Sister of Edgar Cook and his wife Frances of Stoughton, Anthony Cook and his wife Celeste of Somerset, and the late Helen T. Cook. Cherished “Nana” to Albert T., Sean, Kaitlin, Steven, Anthony, Jennifer, Daniel and Paige and “Great Nana” to Teylem, Logan and Nora. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday, September 11, 2022 from 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM. Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Alberta may be made to The Kendrick House, 76 High Street, Wareham, MA 02571 Attn: Veterans’ Activity Fund.
