American Legion Post #220 baseball results for week 2

Wareham's American Legion Post #220 baseball team has a 4-2 record after its second week of baseball.

June 18 - Brockton, 2; Post #220, 1

Post #220 battled Brockton Post #35 on June 18, but comes up short in extra innings to drop the first game of the summer giving Post #220 a 3-1 record for the season.

Matt Beatty of Old Rochester worked all nine innings in a great pitching performance, however.

Beatty allowed only five hits throughout the night and collected eight strikeouts along the way, moving his ERA to a miniscule 1.31 in his two starts.

Offensively, Wiley Knight of Tabor went 2-for-3, collecting his first American Legion hit in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Ryan Steek of Upper Cape produced the only run for Post #220 with a two-out RBI single during the same inning of play to tie the game.

After allowing a run in the top of the ninth inning, Post #220 left a runner on base by hitting into a fielder’s choice to end the game.

 

June 20 - Post #220, 11; Hawkeye, 1

Zack Kirby of Old Rochester/Framingham State earned his first win of the summer on June 20 by tossing a complete game on the campus of Bridgewater State and pushing Post #220 to a 4-1 record.

Kirby allowed only one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter.

Tyler Horton of Wareham and Jimmy Gamache of Tabor went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Austin Salkind of Old Rochester went 1-for-1 with an RBI single; Billy Peterson of Wareham scored two runs and added an RBI double; Hadley Stone of Taft went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored; Zach Angelo of Tabor went 1-for-3 with an RBI double, while Sean Conway of Wareham finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI’s.

 

June 22 - Plymouth, 5; Post #220, 2

Post #220 dropped to a 4-2 record after being held to five hits on June 22 and was only able to push across two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Billy Peterson of Wareham went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base, while Jimmy Gamache of Tabor and Sean Griffith of Bourne were 1-for-3 with each collecting an RBI.

Wiley Knight of Tabor added the only other base hit.

Hadley Stone of Taft took the complete game loss in allowing only four earned runs on six hits, four walks, and four strikeouts.
