Jul 9, 2012

The American Legion Post #220 baseball team played four games last week but only lost one to give them a 9-4 record!

Check below for the scores and a synopsis of week four of games.

Saturday, July 7 - Post #220, 10; Sandwich, 0 (9-4)

Ian Searles (Wareham) was able to pitch through the heat and humidity; on his way to a seventeen strikeout complete game performance.

Completely dominant from the start to finish, Searles allowed only two hits and four walks on the afternoon. Offensively, Sean Griffith (Bourne), Billy Peterson (Wareham) and Ryan Steek (Upper Cape) all had two hits apiece.

Zach Angelo (Tabor), Tyler Horton (Wareham), Brett Labonte (Wareham), Davarn Nova (Coyle and Cassidy) and PJ Poulin (Old Rochester) each finished with one hit, while Angelo, Nova and Poulin delivered RBI base hits along the way.

Friday, July 6 - Post #220, 1; Duxbury, 0 (8-4)

Zack Kirby (Old Rochester/Framingham State) picked up his second win with another complete game gem. Kirby struck out seven and allowed only four hits and one walk.

Billy Peterson (Wareham) went 2-for-3 with a triple and one run scored.

Jimmy Gamache (Tabor) had an RBI base hit in the third inning that proved to be enough, while Sean Griffith (Bourne), Wiley Knight (Tabor), Brett Labonte (Wareham) and Austin Salkind (Old Rochester) each finished with one hit.

Monday, July 2 - Post #220, 4; Middleboro, 3 (7-4)

Matt Beatty (Old Rochester) picked up his third win of the summer by throwing a complete game victory in Middleboro.

Beatty allowed just five hits collecting three strikeouts along the way.

Jimmy Gamache (Tabor) led the offensive charge by going 3-for-3 with an RBI and one run scored, while Davarn Nova (Coyle and Cassidy) came up with a big two out bases clearing double in the top of the third inning.

Tyler Horton (Wareham) went 1-for-2, while Zach Angelo (Tabor), Chris Carando (Old Rochester) and Ryan Steek (Upper Cape) each finished with a base hit and one run scored on the night.

Sunday, July 1 - Barnstable, 6; Post #220, 0 (6-4)

For the first time this summer, Post #220 dropped two games in a row (having lost June 29 at home against Pembroke). Barnstable jumped out to a 1-0 lead prior to a thirty minute rain delay with one out in the bottom of the third inning.

When play resumed, Ian Searles (Wareham) was able to pitch out of a bases loaded jam, by striking out the next two batters he faced. Unfortunately, Post #220 could only produce four hits on the night and wasn’t able to push any runs across.

Sean Conway (Wareham), Tyler Horton (Wareham), Billy Peterson (Wareham) and Austin Salkind (Old Rochester) each finished with one hit.

Searles ultimately threw five hard innings while surrendering four earned runs on five hits, while collecting nine strikeouts along the way.
