Annual toy drive allows community to shop with cops, donate Christmas gifts to kids in need

Dec 16, 2017

The seventh annual Stuff-a-Cruiser toy drive will ensure that kids in need have dolls, trucks, bikes and other Christmas gifts this year.

Members of the Wareham Police Department stood outside Wal-Mart and Target on Saturday, filling cruisers and a police van with donated toys. After being outside for a couple hours, several cars had already been filled and more gifts were pouring in.

Ian, Chloe and Isobel King went shopping with their mom in Target to pick out gifts to donate, deciding on a ball and some "The Secret Life of Pets" toys. The siblings donate gifts every year for Stuff-a-Cruiser.

The collected toys will be donated to Turning Point and given to children in need this holiday.

"The generosity...every year it amazes us how many toys we get," said Officer John Gerard, who was helping collect the toys.

Many people approached the officers, shaking their hands and thanking them for serving the community.

"It's been really positive," said Officer Ryan Gomes. "We get a lot of good comments."

Donations of toys for all ages or winter coats can be brought to the Wareham Police Department, 2515 Cranberry Highway, until Christmas Eve.
