Annual Wareham Oyster Festival shells out good times on May 28
Older couples in love and young children alike did not clam up when it came time to slurp raw shellfish at Wareham’s Oyster Festival on May 28.
The event, which took place on Main Street, featured warm weather and live music, which guaranteed a good turnout and full stomachs at the fourth annual festival.
Friends and shellfishers Peter Reed and Phil Wentworth attended the festival for the first time and raved about what a wonderful thing it is to have in the community.
“These are only our first dozen oysters,” Reed said. “We’re going to try them all.”
Vendors from multiple states set up at the festival.
Employees from the Big Rock Oyster Company brought 4,500 oysters and 1,200 clams from Cape Cod to serve at the festival, saying the event is a great day for business.
Matunuck Oyster Farm from Rhode Island was also represented, as Frank Zymanski served up oysters on the half shell with lemon wedges.
“Our restaurant got voted one of the top ten oyster bars in the country,” Zymanski said. This is the oyster farm’s third year dishing out shellfish at the Oyster Festival.
Other oyster vendors included Cuttyhunk Shellfish Farms and Indian Cove Aquaculture.
