A 36-year-old man was arrested Friday charged with cocaine possession and illegal liquor transportation after an anonymous tipster reported he may have had a weapon in his car.
Wareham Police responded to the Lowe’s parking lot in Wareham Crossing at approximately 5:30 p.m. after an anonymous caller said two men were passing a possible weapon back and forth while sitting in a black Range Rover.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with the car’s owner, Jason Childs, during which time police said a corner cut baggie containing suspected cocaine was noticed on the console. Police said they then found a scale used to weigh drugs, several plastic baggies, and two cell phones, along with $8,154 cash. Also found in the vehicle were 20 bottles of wine and 36 bottles of liquor.
Childs was charged with possession of a Class B substance (cocaine) and Illegal transportation of liquor in excess of 3 gallons. Police said an investigation will continue with regard to the possible forfeiture of the seized cash and the 2009 Range Rover.
