Arts in the Park gearing up for second week
Arts in the Park, a new festival for artists to show off their work, will be back for its second week on the hillside near the Onset Band Shell, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Artists of all mediums, as well as musicians and performance artists, are invited to participate in Arts in the Park, though performances should be family-friendly. Artists are allowed to sell their work. There is no cost to participate or to attend the event.
"In this area, there is nothing like it," said Arts in the Park organizer, and participating photographer, Bruce Gannon. He started the festival because there is no permanent installation in the area, like an art gallery, for artists to display their work, he said. "And there are a lot of artisans here."
The festival will be held every Sunday throughout the summer.
The first week featured a poet, photographers, and a tarot card reader, Gannon said. He is looking for more artists to participate.
"It's a really simple thing," Gannon said. Just show up, check in with Gannon, and set up a display. (Tables and display racks are not provided.)
"This is an open invitation for any and all artists to participate in a free event," Gannon said. And, of course, for people to attend and support local artists.
