Auction of Wickets Inn and Pub rescheduled

Jan 18, 2011

An auction of iconic Onset property Wickets Inn and Pub has been rescheduled for Friday, February 25 at 12 p.m.

The auction was originally scheduled for January 13. Andrew Kushner, of the Spinnaker Group, which is managing the property, as well as a representative from auctioneer Paul E. Saperstein Co., said they were unsure why the auction was rescheduled.

The change surprised Kushner, who was at the property on January 13, showing around prospective bidders. He said he hadn't found out about the rescheduling until just before the auction.

Wickets Inn and Pub closed abruptly on November 15. Signs posted on the doors of the buildings alerted both employees and potential customers that circumstances “beyond our control” caused owners David Wolfram and his wife, Mary, of L&W Holdings, to cease operations.

The property was switched from Chapter 11 to a Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing on November 13, according to Warren Agin, bankruptcy trustee for L&W Holdings’ lender, Salem Five Bank. That allowed L&W Holdings to wipe out all of its debt, with the stipulation that the ownership of the property would transfer to the lender.

Salem Five Bank is conducting the auction. The real estate and the personal property inside the buildings are on the block.

The property owners are permitted to bid on the property. If no one purchases the property through the auction, the bank will retain possession.
