August activities planned for seniors

The Council on Aging has a number of activities planned for seniors this month.

The Council will be hosting office hours Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon at the Multiservice Center at 48 Marion Rd.

The center will host an Open House on Saturday, August 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the Onset Bay Association’s Chalk Festival at the Wareham Town Hall. Rain date August 22.

On Wednesday, August 11, learn to make greeting cards at 9:15 a.m. Materials will be provided to complete four to five cards. Space is limited, so sign up by calling 508-291-3130. A $3 donation is requested. 

On August 17 at 9 a.m., the Onset Bay Center will lead a sailing trip for seniors. Space is limited and registration is required. Contact Kat Garofoli at 508-999-6363 to register.

There are also a number of weekly activities scheduled. 

Play Mahjong at 1 p.m. each Tuesday at the Cranberry Cafe.

Every Monday, play cribbage from 10 a.m. to noon in Room 208.

Every Wednesday at 1 p.m., make mats for the homeless in Room 102. All materials are provided.

Tai Chi is held every Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Wareham Free Library.

Chair yoga is held at the library on Thursdays at 2 p.m. Sign up by calling 508-291-3130.

Weekly Coffee and Conversation takes place each Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the rear of the building. In the event of inclement weather, please meet in the Cranberry Café.

Grab and Go Box Lunches are available Tuesdays and Thursdays, courtesy of the Old Colony Elder Services. Lunches must be reserved at least three days in advance by calling 508-291-3130, and can be picked up at the Multi-Service Center handicap ramp. The menu is available on Facebook and in the Senior Beacon.

The Walking Group is cancelled until further notice, and the council is looking for a volunteer to lead the activity. Those interested in volunteering should call the center. 

The Council on Aging is now using a MySeniorCenter system. Participants will be asked to sign up for a MySeniorCenter scan card. The program will allow the center to contact participants about cancelled classes or upcoming programs.
