Band Shell painted, Cape Verdean Festival planned

Jun 8, 2010

The Onset Band Shell got a fresh coat of paint last week, courtesy of the Onset Cape Verdean Festival Association, which is gearing up for this year's festival.

"Because we have the festival here, we just thought it'd be a nice thing to give back to the community," said Michael Roderick, association president.

The 2010 Onset Cape Verdean Festival, a free event, is scheduled for Saturday, August 14 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., with an August 15 rain date. The association is currently looking for business supporters for the event, which costs more than $30,000 to hold and attracts around 20,000 people to Onset.

Any money raised but not used for the Cape Verdean Festival is donated to various causes, including scholarship funding for Bridgewater State College and Wareham High School, and the Oak Grove Cultural Center fund.

The association is also in search of additional members, as well as for someone to design its website.
