Bank only bidder on Wickets Inn and Pub

Feb 25, 2011

About a dozen people attended an auction of iconic Onset property Wickets Inn and Pub Friday, which ended with the property's lender, Salem Five Bank, posting the only bids.

Bidding started at $1.5 million, and there were no bites until the bank stepped in at $750,000. The bank then raised its bid to $1.1 million.

Salem Five Bank was the lender for L&W Holdings, the limited liability corporation owned by David Wolfram and his wife, Mary Lapinski. The auction was the last in a series of financial troubles surrounding the property.

The property was switched from Chapter 11 to a Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing on November 13, according to Warren Agin, bankruptcy trustee for Salem Five Bank. That allowed L&W Holdings to wipe out all of its debt, with the stipulation that the ownership of the property would transfer to the lender.

Wickets Inn and Pub closed abruptly on November 15. Signs posted on the doors of the buildings alerted both employees and potential customers that circumstances “beyond our control” caused Wolfram and Lapinski to shut the business down.

The property was also up for auction last March, but the owners were able to work out an agreement with the bank before the event occurred.
