Bay Pointe Country Club up for auction
Onset icon Bay Pointe Country Club will be up for auction later this month.
A public auction is scheduled for June 22 at 11 a.m., according to the website of Holbrook-based auctioneer and appraiser company Paul E. Saperstein Co. Inc., which will oversee the bidding.
Built in the 1960s, the club has faced financial challenges in the past. Tom Tobey, Head Golf Professional at Bay Pointe, said the property has gone into bankruptcy several times before.
Tobey said he had only recently learned the property was up for auction and was not sure about the circumstances surrounding the auction or its possible impact on current club members.
Bay Pointe golfer Derek Drinkwater said he was confident that despite the auction he'd still be golfing at the club.
“We had heard there was a chance of it selling, but they said it wouldn’t affect our membership,” said Drinkwater, who purchased his membership in December along with his wife.
The 138-acre property, located at 19 Bay Pointe Drive off of Onset Avenue, offers 19 holes and two clubhouses.
Mark A. Gibson, the owner of the country club, could not be immediately reached for comment at this time.
