The 8th annual Bird Island Challenge begins at 7 a.m. Sunday, August 15. Sponsored by the Gleason Family YMCA, the paddle raises money for the Y's scholarship fund.

Participants begin at Zecco Marina on Main Street and complete a 3-, 6-, or 13-mile kayak/canoe/nuclear submarine (just kidding) paddle to Long Beach (Wareham), Great Hill (Marion), or Bird Island (Marion), respectively, before returning to Zecco Marina.
