Bog Fright Night spooks locals
Wagons full of attendees of all ages got spooked last weekend at fifth annual Bog Fright Night at Tihonet Village Market and the surrounding woods and cranberry bogs.
Youth from the Onset Youth Center, Wareham Public Schools, and MA Children's Relief took part in the event by jumping out at the wagons, performing in skits, and doing the dance from Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video.
A portion of the proceeds raised benefitted each of the organizations.
Because the event is annual, the organizers try to do their best to change things up for repeat attendees.
In addition to "Thriller," this year's event featured plenty of chainsaws, along with a few surprises.
"Our theme is there can never be enough chainsaws," Wagon Master Sally Morrison joked.
Morrison, who also helps coordinate the event, said organizers were fortunate to have good, albeit slightly chilly, weather on Friday, the first night of the event. She added that the event will run in bad weather, but usually people call to change their reservations.
Bonnie Lasorsa, a sixth grade teacher at Wareham Middle School, said her students had been taking their part of the event very seriously.
"They've been practicing 'Thriller' in the hallway for weeks," she said.
Morrison said the middle school's honor society and the parent volunteers are the only reason they were able to host the event this year. She added that other key players in putting things on were Darryl Higgins, president of the Onset Youth Community, and Kim Houdlette, the A.D. Makepeace liaison.
