Book written by Wareham native gets stamp of approval from moms

The Mom's Choice Awards has named "Step Ahead of Autism: What You Can Do to Ensure the Best Possible Outcome for Your Child" by Anne Moore Burnett, among the best in family-friendly media, products, and services.

"Step Ahead of Autism" chronicles the journey former Wareham resident Burnett and her son Joey went through when he was diagnosed with autism at two-and-a-half years old and gives parents of autistic children advice on how to handle the disorder.

Joey is highly functioning with his disorder; he graduated valedictorian from Bishop Stang High School in 2008 and is currently a senior at Brown University. Burnett currently resides in Marion.

The Mom’s Choice Awards recognizes authors, inventors, companies, parents, and others for their efforts in creating quality family-friendly media, products, and services.

The panel of judges includes education, media, and other experts as well as parents, children, librarians, performing artists, producers, medical and business professionals, authors, scientists and others. The evaluation process uses a propriety methodology in which entries are scored on a number of elements including production quality, design, educational value, entertainment value, originality, appeal, and cost.
