Boys & Girls Club offers after-school program
The Boys & Girls Club of Wareham offers an after-school program for children ages 7 to 13 featuring homework assistance, court games, a computer lab, and arts and crafts, among other activities.
The program operates from 2 to 6 p.m. and provides busing from the Decas and Minot Forest elementary schools.
Power Hour, the Club’s homework help program, is funded through Wareham’s Community and Economic Development Authority.
Assisted by Wareham High School students Power Hour Supervisor Jimmy Cannon, works closely with parents and teachers to assist students who may need additional tutoring or assistance organizing their work.
"I feel that the program is invaluable, especially in the hustle-bustle world we live in today," said Cannon, a UMass Dartmouth senior who has been with the program for 5 years. "I get the biggest kick out of the program when I see a kid who struggled at the beginning of the year come into their own by the time spring comes around."
The cost is $400 for the school year plus a $25 membership fee. A deposit of $125 is required, with the balance paid in 3 consecutive monthly installments of $100 each. Limited financial assistance is available.
Applications may be picked up Monday through Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Club or downloaded at www.bgcnewbedford.org (click on "Wareham Unit").
